Useful to obtain a foundation of major counseling theories used contemporarily. Downfall, as is with most contemporary counseling books is the lack of focus on best practices for vulnerable clients. I.E. low income, co-morbid illnesses, and difficulty with traditional psychotherapy. However, as it is a more surface level book this is to be expected.

The book gives a nice comprehensive review of the various theories without diving in too far to each one to overwhelm the reader. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get into the mental health field!
