Incorporating the thinking, feeling, and behaving dimensions of human experience, the tenth edition of Corey’s best-selling text helps you compare and contrast the therapeutic models expressed in counseling theories. Corey introduces you to the major theories (psychoanalytic, Adlerian, existential, person-centered, Gestalt, reality, behavior, cognitive-behavior, family systems, feminist, postmodern, and integrative approaches) and demonstrates how each theory can be applied to two cases (“Stan” and “Gwen”). He shows you how to apply theories in practice, and helps you learn to integrate the theories into an individualized counseling style. New learning objectives identify key aspects of each theory and focus your study.

5.0 out of 5 stars Theories, Theories, Theories!

This book truly helped me learn all the counseling theories very well. At the end of this book, I was like you were being aggressive like gestalt or it is like alderian therapy says because you are the middle child. This book will help you grasp the main concepts and make you look proficient!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book

I wouldn’t usually review Textbook, but this one is a great read for counselors in training.

The book gives a nice comprehensive review of the various theories without diving in too far to each one to overwhelm the reader. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants to get into the mental health field!

This book was great read! Very informative! I like that it was well written and easy to read and comprehend the messages being conveyed. The words are a perfect size for reading and not too small. It could be a little less pricey though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful for beginning counselor or others in “helping” profession.

Useful to obtain a foundation of major counseling theories used contemporarily. Downfall, as is with most contemporary counseling books is the lack of focus on best practices for vulnerable clients. I.E. low income, co-morbid illnesses, and difficulty with traditional psychotherapy. However, as it is a more surface level book this is to be expected.
