    Immensely useful for practitioners

I purchased this book to gather more therapeutic tools and skills in my work with diverse young adult therapy clients. I have not even finished reading the entire book, but I already use and adapt resources from this book in almost EVERY client session. For any mental health practitioner working with clients who have experienced trauma (or even clients who may not have experienced trauma!) this book is a priceless resource. Buy it, buy it!

This is one of my favorite books of all time

This is one of my favorite books of all time. I have used many of these activities in my groups, and the clients love the fact that they are not the same boring topics as other groups they have attended. I would highly recommend this book.

Recommended this book from a trauma conference and feel it is a good resource overall. It is possibly more helpful for new therapists to the subject matter. I enjoyed reviewing it but I’m not sure it will be a go-to book of mine for interventions.

Very much a collection of worksheets with minimal description of each of the 101 interventions. Requires a main text if you are not already familiar with the broad variety of body work (Yoga, biofeedback, various body work and eastern stress management approaches, etc.) types of interventions. The worksheet format is relatively simple and straight forward but requires some explanation for the more unfamiliar.

    Good for the toolbox

I really like the variety of approaches and exercises in this book. Simply reading it improves skills and knowledge for any clinician. The only thing I see as a drawback is some of the exercises are not clearly explained in terms of purpose, intent and desired outcome. I have to examine some of the activities to see the applicable value to a client, so I have to make sure I’m prepared way ahead of time to use a lot of these. This is not one of those books you can grab an exercise from on the fly; still an asset to an overall toolbox though.

    Great first half of book.

I wasn’t expecting much as I seem to be disappointed with most books. However, this one seems to be a winner for the first half of the book. Although I know that yoga and Tai Chi are ways to meditate and have other’s get mentally out of their head, as a therapist there is not much I can do in that department. I wish there were more tangible exercises that I can do with my patients instead of the yoga and such. Although with that being said, there are some awesome exercises that I will do with my patients from this book. I would like to see a second without the more interventions.

This is an excellent tool for every clinician. There is plenty of material that can be used during individual session, and worksheets that you can use in everyday clinical practice. A must have in every clinician’s “toolbox”.

I've had it a week and already recommended it to a therapist friend

Downloadable worksheets! The best kept secret about this book so far. It is easy to get them in the hands of my clients. They are useful and relevant and add to a positive therapy experience. They are well written and I don’t find myself skipping over sections for reasons that I typically have to pick and choose in other resources. This is definitely worth the investment.

    Looks good

I haven’t gotten through all of the worksheets yet but they look like they will produce good thought provoking questions and conversations between client and therapist. It is a little difficult to tell where one intervention stops and the other starts, I didn’t notice if that the exercise were marked in any way.

I'm glad I have this useful book

This book offers a range of trauma interventions for use with clients presenting with a variety of trauma-related symptoms. Not intended to be a text about trauma itself, Curran’s book offers the clinician a wide-ranging set of tools to offer to clients whose individual needs manifest in many different ways. It offers the clinician the luxury of choice. I’m glad I have this useful book.

Awesome tool to add to your collection

I am an EMDR therapist and acknowledge that EMDR is not for everyone. I have utilized this book for clients who may not have enough protective factors to help cope when not in therapy. There is a large variety of techniques and assignments for individuals and groups. I highly recommend this for any therapist.

    Great Resource

I bought this book 6 years ago and think this has been a very useful resource. It’s comprehensive where I have used quite a few of the exercises with all sorts of clients not just clients working on a specific trauma. I’m in both Somatic Experiencing and DARe (attachment) trainings and look forward to using this book and the trainings to further develop my therapeutic skills.

    Highly Recommend

I am a therapist working in a substance use treatment center and I absolutely love this book. Very easy to read and apply in a clinical setting. The interventions are labeled (group or individual) and most provide a summary and process questions. Definitely recommend for anyone working with clients who have experienced complex trauma.
