Clinicians working with complex trauma are honored with the most sacred of tasks: to bear witness to clients’ suffering and to attend compassionately to their wounds.

In The Complex PTSD Treatment Manual, clinicians will find the road map they need to conduct successful therapy with clients who have experienced prolonged exposure to traumatic events. Combining the science and art of therapy, Dr. Arielle Schwartz seamlessly integrates research-based interventions with the essentials of healing to create a whole-person approach to trauma treatment.

Drawing from her years of experience in working with trauma survivors, Dr. Schwartz provides clinicians with the tools they need to become a trustworthy companion to trauma survivors and become capable of guiding a healing journey for clients with a history of abuse or neglect. Within these pages, you will find:
– Essential interventions that strengthen mindful body awareness, enhance distress tolerance, cultivate self-compassion, and facilitate trauma recovery
– Over 50 practices, worksheets, and self-reflection points to utilize in each stage of the client’s therapeutic process
– Integration of several therapeutic approaches for trauma treatment, including relational therapy, mindful body awareness, parts work therapy, CBT, EMDR, somatic psychology, and practices drawn from complementary and alternative medicine

As a therapist who works with trauma, I own and use Arielle’s books frequently. She has a refreshing, modern, positive, and scientific outlook on what trauma and complex trauma really are and she beautifully holds the reader as having the capacity to heal deeply. She is a hope merchant, who offers accessible and simply explained, and truly if you apply them healing practices. Don’t let your inner skeptic and saboteur fool you that these practices will do nothing, they are tried and true to work with your nervous system to release and find balance. She is an amazing therapist, teacher, lightworker, and holder of great knowledge. This manual is designed to be used directly by a person or client, as well as by therapists and other healers alike. It is extremely user friendly, and articulately written. She makes, what is actually very difficult, easy to comprehend, and offers real practices and techniques that don’t complicate things too much. Much of the world is traumatized right now, whether aware of it or not, and this manual as well as all of her other books and resources are a beacon for the world to heal. I highly recommend this manual and everything that Arielle offers.

From theory to practice, with case examples and healing practices, Arielle Schwartz covers everything you need to know about complex trauma. The book is focused on the most important aspects of trauma and effective treatment for CPTSD. From theory to practice, with a neurobiological perspective and up-to-date research, this book will teach you how to be a better trauma therapist.

I have read The Body Keeps the Score and am undergoing training to become a somatic experiencing practitioner to compliment my current work as a clinical counsellor. I really appreciate this book for how it describes concepts in an easy to understand manner and how complimentary it will be for anyone hoping to bring in more somatic/embodiment work into their clinical practice. I think it is also a great resource that all mental health professionals should read to understand basic concepts of trauma. Highly recommend.
