It is extremely well laid out and really operationalizes all of the model components! Dr. Sokol & Dr. Fox have created a must have book for the practice of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy!

I found this book by Sokol and Fox very useful. It offers practical guidelines to help apply CBT principles, research findings, and treatment methods to common mental disorders and problems. The examples clearly illustrate the applications, and the worksheets for clients and clinicians are especially handy. I wholeheartedly recommend it.

I have been a practicing CBT therapist since the 1970s and endeavor to continuously improve my day-to-day practice of this evidence-based and effective therapy modality. This book, undoubtedly, belongs in the category of practice optimization. CBT, despite its apparent simplicity, has many moving pieces and involves a variety of therapist competencies (for example: collaboration and guided discovery) , as well as some very specific techniques. Some therapists, myself included, may find this a bit overwhelming at times. This book, modeling good CBT practice, breaks down the components of CBT into very concrete and specific therapist behaviors and skills. Practical and yet sophisticated in presenting CBT in non-formulaic and client-customized manner, this comprehensive workbook will be of tremendous benefit to both novice CBT therapists and, also, to more seasoned and experienced practitioners who will gain “new ways of looking at old issues”. Over the years I have become familiar with many CBT books in this ever-expanding field, but ,if asked by colleagues, trainees, or supervisees to recommend books to guide actual CBT practice, I would unreservedly recommend Judith Beck’s Cognitive behavior Therapy: Basics and Beyond (2011) and this excellent resource, expertly written in a flowing and accessible style by Leslie Sokol and Marci Fox.

Drs. Sokol and Fox have written a fantastic guide for clinicians interested in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT). Their guide offers the clinician new to CBT descriptions and illustrations of the key components of modern CBT in an easy-to-consume format. It also has much to offer the advanced CBT clinician, including a battery of worksheets in reproducible format. Finally, they address a wide range of clinical concerns, not just anxiety and depression. Highly recommended!

I have been using this book for the last couple of months, due to my psychologist retiring and the other psychologists too full to take in new patients. In this time, the book has helped me acknowledge several of my failings, while also showing me ways towards improvement. Since then, I’ve improved on several aspects of my personality, learning to understand my emotions, where they come from, and how to approach situations in a overall more calm manner.
While this book can be worked on without professional help, I would highly recommend that you use this book with your therapist/psychologist/psychiatrist. While the exercises in the book can be done by yourself, the book itself mentions that you should discuss what you wrote with a licensed professional( I agree completely; This book helped reach the roots of my problem, and had I shown the book and the answers to my psychologist, I could have more easily improved myself). Either way, the book is excellent and I highly recommend it.

Informative and useful!

I love this book! I almost never finish books because I get so bored with the fluff that is included in the writing. The writers provide the information concisely and do not restate it in multiple ways. They provide great examples of how clinicians can best help their client and they do it in an organized way that makes sense and is easy to retain.

This is truly a wonderful resource. I love it for its accessibility. It packs a wealth of information in a really easy-to-access way. Worksheets are straight forward. Explanations are straight-forward. Brilliant and excellent. Honestly, the best book I’ve found besides Judith Beck’s text. All other texts are just meh. I feel confident doing CBT using this resource.

I’ve just began reading the book and I’ve gotta say that I love how organized and thoroughly put this book is. I’m a Grad student in Social Work and started seeing clients and this book is definitely a great tool to have! We’re learning more about the CBT model and it’s nice to have something I can refer to so I can be prepared for sessions. If you’re new to the clinician profession this is a MUST HAVE!

I am graduate student in a clinical psychology program. I purchased this book to help me understand CBT as I was struggling with conceptualization. It was really helpful and I used it a lot when writing my final case conceptualization. I recommend this book for other psychology students.

I love how the authors break down how to use CBT for a variety of diagnoses. This has been both helpful for me as a new clinician and it has helped my clients as well. I wish that they made a book like this for children and adolescents. Until they do I just break it down in a kid friendly way.

Great info on cognitive behavior…., in which I use along side my chemical dependency counseling. Lots of good exercises to use with clients and groups!

I took this workbook with me to my therapy appointment and she was happy to work with me and the book. Cbt and Dbt are so beneficial to practice and learn the techniques to take back my life in a more manageable way. I know my mental and behavioral issues are a work in progress, but with the guide of this book and my therapy. I have confidence I’ll be more successful in my healing journey.
Highly recommend!
Only kind note I would have is, to have an area where you can write notes in the book after each chapter.
